About Shadow Yoga

Shadow yoga is rooted in the ancient hatha yoga tradition. Founder Shandor Remete has been exploring yoga and the internal arts since he was introduced to yoga by his father, aged six. He is an initiate of the Goraknath lineage of yogins.

Shadow yoga teaches the essential tools of hatha yoga - asana, pranayama and pratyahara, as well as Nrtta (dance) - to cultivate the fruits of Hatha yoga, including a quiet, meditative state of mind. Co-founder Emma Balnaves is internationally recognised for her encylopedic knowledge of hatha yoga philosophy and Ayurveda.

Shadow yoga begins with three Prelude forms.

The first form, the Balakrama, or Stepping into Strength, cultivates ease in the joints and strength in the bones, which cleanses the blood and improves respiration.

The second form, Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam, or Yoking of the Shadow Warrior, refines the breath and coordination.

The third form, Karttikeya Mandala, or Garland of Light, helps to dissolve deeper patterns within the individual.

The Nrtta Sadhana, or pure dance, consists of karanas designated as those for self-cultivation (there are other karanas used in the performing arts).

Pam now teaches foundational Shadow hatha yoga and is introducing the first Prelude in Ireland.
