    About Shadow Yoga

Shadow yoga is rooted in the ancient hatha yoga tradition, and teaches the essential tools of hatha yoga - asana, pranayama and pratyahara - to cultivate the fruits of Hatha yoga, including a quiet, meditative state of mind. The practice makes consistent reference to the energetic principles of the human form, including the marmasthana, vayus, and bhandhas, with simple movements that constructively engage the mind.

Shadow yoga begins with three Prelude forms. The first form, the Balakrama, or Stepping into Strength, cultivates ease in the joints and strength in the bones, which cleanses the blood and improves respiration.

Shadow yoga begins with three Prelude forms.

The first form, the Balakrama, or Stepping into Strength, cultivates ease in the joints and strength in the bones, which cleanses the blood and improves respiration.

The second form, Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam, or Yoking of the Shadow Warrior, refines the breath and coordination.

The third form, Karttikeya Mandala, or Garland of Light, helps to dissolve deeper patterns within the individual.

The Nrtta Sadhana, or pure dance, consists of karanas designated as those for self-cultivation (there are other karanas used in the performing arts).

Pam now teaches foundational Shadow hatha yoga and is introducing the first Prelude in Ireland.

The founder of the Shadow school, Sundernath (Shandor Remete), has been exploring yoga and the internal arts since he was introduced to yoga by his father, aged six. He is an initiate of the Goraknath lineage of yogins. Emma Balnaves, director of the Shadow school, teaches in partnership with Shandor. See shadowyoga.com for more information.
